Within the ruins of Jerash

Aside from the pearl of Jordan, Petra, the kingdom has another great city to offer if you are a fan of ruins: Jerash.

Jerash is the site of the ruins of the Greco-Roman city of Gerasa. Though there is a city with houses and delicious restaurants, the real attraction is the city that it is used to be before it was grappled by earthquakes and war. IMG_2753It is very much a family outing so when you go you will see a mix of tourists and families enjoying a sunny day walking around the ruins. IMG_2756 IMG_2757 IMG_2771The walk can be as long or as short as you’d like it to be and it is of low intensity (that if your day is not too hot or sunny of course!)IMG_2759The pictures don’t do the ruins justice since they are actually giant, and only by comparison to my tiny self do you really realize how big they are. Additionally one of my favorite parts is the detail that was carved out in some of the rocks which is pretty impressive considering how long ago it was built. IMG_2762 IMG_2774 IMG_2770

What are some of the best ruins you have ever visited?

What is the best historical place you have ever been to?

  1. I was not aware of Jerash. We did a cycling tour in Turkey and the many ruins there would be our best experience with Ephesus being at the top of the list.
